2nd Annual “Pec” River Fest 2009
The Lena Community Park District and Friends of the Pecatonica River Foundation in cooperation with The Rafter’s Restaurant and Catering will be hosting the Second Annual “Pec” River Fest on Saturday, June 13, 2009. This year’s event has been expanded to add more excitement and more river opportunities. We will once again offer the very popular Catered Pontoon Rides on Friday night, June 12. New to this event will be the Pedal-Paddle. This biking & paddling excursion has been well attended and is now a part of the Pec River Fest. Call, email, or fax for reservations. Admission to the grounds is FREE.
Pec River Fest is a family fun event that involves activities, competitions, live entertainment, ultra-light and model aircraft demonstrations, dunk tank, inflatables, food and refreshments. Proceeds from this event will be used for site improvements on the Pecatonica River. The Lena Community Park District is developing the McConnell “Bobtown” Landing and McNeil’s Damascus Landing. The McConnell “Bobtown” Landing will provide a second access point to the Pecatonica River for canoeing, kayaking, small watercraft, fishing and other leisure family activities.
This event shares proceeds with the “Friends of the Pecatonica River Foundation”. Although new, this Not-for-Profit 501{c}3 Foundation is dedicated to continual care of our natural resource and the enrichment of our Quality of Life through recreation. Friends of the Pecatonica River Foundation is the only organization solely dedicated to the Pecatonica River. This organization will be working to improve the health of the river for the benefit of people and wildlife.
The Pecatonica River offers over 58 miles of recreation and wildlife opportunities in Stephenson County. The entire Pecatonica River is nearly 150 miles in length. Several efforts are underway to improve access and the overall health of the Pecatonica River for people and wildlife.
